Making Your Life Work

“‘For I know the plans I have for you,’ says the LORD. ‘They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.’” Jeremiah 29:11 NLT “I did it by myself,” “I am the captain of my fate.” These are a few examples of some perspectives on how to make life work. Everyday, millions of people wander aimlessly lost, seeking love and significance in all the wrong places without a clue as to how to make life work. We need always to remember Jesus’ reminder that “apart from me, you can do nothing” (John 15:5).

When we try to make life work without the resurrection power of God at work in us through the Holy Spirit, we can be sure that we will never be able to make life work the way God intended. Many ignore their need for God when enjoying all of the pleasures and blessings of life without any of the heartbreak or problems about which we are warned will come time and time again in Scripture. Making life work in our marriages, parenting, relationships, finances, and work places often requires more longsuffering, patience, self control, and love than we can supply in our own strength. Jesus tells us that He is the Way, the Truth and the Life. When we seek to be our own way, truth, and life, we are headed for trouble. Trying to make life work without the miracle worker is a futile pursuit.

Jesus not only promises but has the power to keep His promises to work all things for the good of those who love Him.

Friends, be encouraged in knowing that God has not forgotten you. There maybe many of you feeling displaced or as if there is no real purpose for you, except to work and make money, or to trot through life just existing. Friends, you have purpose, and your life has meaning. But it is a matter of perspective. How do you see yourself? How you see yourself or even how others see you is not nearly as significant as how God sees you. He says, you are the apple of my eye. Hmm so what does that actually mean? The term “The apple of my eye” is an old idiom and is first mentioned in the Bible in the Book of Psalms chapter 17 verse 8 (also in 3 other places in the bible) talking of guarding the apple of my eye. In those days the apple of the eye was actually referring to the pupil / cornea part of the eye. Sight is always considered a precious thing and during that time was no exception.

So the same way you would go to all lengths to protect and guard your eyesight is the same way you would love and protect someone you care about. God wants to do the same for us. But we have to choose to accept His Love. Love is a choice. The only way we can truly make our life work for us the way God intended, is to accept his love and his help. Once we accept His love than we will be able to accept all the blessings he has for us. And that will include feeling fulfilled in your life and having peace in your life wherever you find yourself today.

Friends, God loves us more than we can ever humanly comprehend. Remember this, “If you were the only person on the planet, God would still send His son to die just for you!”

Choices and Rewards

Hoping this finds you well and blessed today. I am an avid book reader and recently stopped by Ben’s Books on Center St. If you have never been there and love to read and like good company and a hot glass of tea, Ben’s is the place to be. He has a great choice of books and at really great prices. Nearly everyone is going to the E- Readers and they are nice, however there is just something comfortable about curling up in the recliner and holding an actual paperback.

I am currently reading a book titled Choices and Rewards, how to live the life God loves to bless by David Cerullo. It is a really great book. Many times throughout the book I am reminded that Gods promises are indeed conditional. I knew this before, but this book just gave me revelation.

Again and again, God announces that IF we do our part then He will do His part. Often times I think about how many Christians continually struggle in the same areas, year after year. Myself included. But what I am realizing is, while many times we are waiting on God to do his part…………he is waiting for us to do ours.

The book of Deuteronomy is a book of blessings and curses. Now, we ALL want to read about the blessings, but rarely read the part that talks about what happens if we are not obedient. And we wonder why we struggle so much! Now granted, we live in a fallen world, therefore bad things happen to good people. But more often than not we are a subject of our own choices. Good or bad. We all have choices.

I remember my mom always telling me, “What you think about most, is what you’re most likely to live,” and, “The decisions you make today will determine where you are 5 years from now.” Now, I never fully understood that of course until I was much older. But, she is really right on, with both of those comments.

Now, the decision I made to come back to California 5yrs ago, has determined where I am today. Had I not chose to come back, I would not be writing for the Driller. I may not have had the opportunities in a metropolitan area that I have here in the small city. God knew where He wanted me; He put it in my heart. But I had a choice. I could have chosen to stay in my comfort zone. I had a nice house and a great job working for a credit card company, my husband worked for the state. OR we could choose to step out in faith and move back to California, with no jobs and no home, totally dependent on God.

I can honestly say, although it has been tough. We have been more blessed since we moved back to Taft than ever before. But it is because we were obedient and because I have purposed it in my heart to serve God with all my being, and seek His kingdom first. God wants to bless us, but sometimes we get too comfortable and choose not to obey when we know God is calling us.

That’s why the word says, “Many are called, but few are chosen.” Matt 22:14. That’s because few choose to answer. God gives you a choice every day. Will you serve him, and answer His call, and receive all that God has for you? Or will you choose to live in disobedience, (which is sin) and that becomes a curse. Friends, you have a choice, blessings or curses. Choose this day, to be obedient and God will reward you with far more blessings than you can ever contain. Be blessed and be encouraged. “That’s My King”

My King was born King. The Bible says He’s a Seven Way King. He’s the King of the Jews – that’s an Ethnic King. He’s the King of Israel – that’s a National King. He’s the King of righteousness. He’s the King of the ages. He’s the King of Heaven. He’s the King of glory. He’s the King of kings and He is the Lord of lords.

Now that’s my King. Well, I wonder if you know Him. Do you know Him? Don’t try to mislead me. Do you know my King? David said the Heavens declare the glory of God, and the firmament shows His handiwork. My King is the only one of whom there are no means of measure that can define His limitless love.

No far seeing telescope can bring into visibility the coastline of the shore of His supplies. No barriers can hinder Him from pouring out His blessing. He’s enduringly strong. He’s entirely sincere. He’s eternally steadfast. He’s immortally graceful. He’s imperially powerful. He’s impartially merciful. That’s my King. He’s God’s Son. He’s the sinner’s saviour.

He’s the centerpiece of civilization. He stands alone in Himself. He’s honest. He’s unique. He’s unparalleled. He’s unprecedented. He’s supreme. He’s pre-eminent. He’s the grandest idea in literature. He’s the highest personality in philosophy. He’s the supreme problem in higher criticism. He’s the fundamental doctrine of historic theology.

He’s the carnal necessity of spiritual religion. That’s my King. He’s the miracle of the age. He’s the superlative of everything good that you choose to call Him. He’s the only one able to supply all our needs simultaneously. He supplies strength for the weak. He’s available for the tempted and the tried. He sympathizes and He saves. He’s the Almighty God who guides and keeps all his people. He heals the sick. He cleanses the lepers. He forgives sinners.

He discharged debtors. He delivers the captives. He defends the feeble. He blesses the young. He serves the unfortunate. He regards the aged. He rewards the diligent and He beautifies the meek. That’s my King. Do you know Him? Well, my King is a King of knowledge. He’s the wellspring of wisdom. He’s the doorway of deliverance. He’s the pathway of peace. He’s the roadway of righteousness. He’s the highway of holiness. He’s the gateway of glory.

He’s the master of the mighty. He’s the captain of the conquerors. He’s the head of the heroes. He’s the leader of the legislatures. He’s the overseer of the overcomers. He’s the governor of governors. He’s the prince of princes. He’s the King of kings and He’s the Lord of lords. That’s my King. His office is manifold. His promise is sure. His light is matchless. His goodness is limitless. His mercy is everlasting. His love never changes.

His Word is enough. His grace is sufficient. His reign is righteous. His yoke is easy and His burden is light. I wish I could describe Him to you . . . but He’s indescribable. That’s my King. He’s incomprehensible, He’s invincible, and He is irresistible. I’m coming to tell you this, that the heavens of heavens can’t contain Him, let alone some man explain Him. You can’t get Him out of your mind. You can’t get Him off of your hands.

You can’t outlive Him and you can’t live without Him. The Pharisees couldn’t stand Him, but they found out they couldn’t stop Him. Pilate couldn’t find any fault in Him. The witnesses couldn’t get their testimonies to agree about Him. Herod couldn’t kill Him. Death couldn’t handle Him and the grave couldn’t hold Him. That’s my King.

He always has been and He always will be. I’m talking about the fact that He had no predecessor and He’ll have no successor. There’s nobody before Him and there’ll be nobody after Him. You can’t impeach Him and He’s not going to resign. That’s my King!

The late Dr. S. M.  Lockeridge, a pastor from San Diego, California
said these words in a sermon in Detroit in 1976:

“Open Your Mouth and I Will Fill It”

You know God never ceases to amaze me. This week I want to challenge you with my testimony. At the end of the year, I prayed and asked God to give me more, “God encounters,” In 2011. And by that I mean I wanted God to put more people in my path that needed to hear from Him. And He was not slow on answering my request.

Just 2 days later, my husband and I were having dinner in one of our favorite restaurants. I began looking around the room for someone to minister to. I knew God would pick someone; after all, there is someone everywhere we go. Now mind you, we can walk up to just about anyone in our own strength and try to minister to them. However, when it is a God encounter, God does the choosing, you just obey what He tells you to do. This was one of those times.

When we were done eating, I walked up to an elder man and told him what God had told me. His wife began weeping and thanked me. I blessed them and walked out. I felt so good, knowing that I had blessed someone. And yes I was nervous, I had no idea what I would say, but God said to me, “open your mouth and I will fill it.” And He did.

Two days later we were at another eating place; this one was a little scary. This person was a big biker looking man, covered in tattoos and piercings. God gave me a word for him. I went into the restroom, and said to God, “okay God I need to know that this is really you because this is scary.” Very clearly in my spirit, I heard Him say, “You know my voice.”

Okay, so I put on my big girl panties and I walked over to him and I told him, “I want to encourage you, the Lord told me to tell you that if you start your business, as long as you keep Him first, you will be successful. And you will never have to work for another man or woman again.” After he closed his mouth from the shock, he smiled, and said, “Thank you, thank you very much.”

Now here’s the thing, I wasn’t scared of him and how he looked, I was scared at what God told me to tell him! I could have really been off on that one. But I left, knowing it was God. Here it was barely January 1st and already I had 2 God encounters.  I just had to make myself available.

And again last week I was out at the grocery store and this sweet old man stopped me and started talking about potato salad and Tamales. When he was walking away, I said, “God bless you.” He responds, “I wish He would.” Talk about God opening a door to minister. I asked him if I could pray with him. He agreed. He says to me, “what about all these people?” I replied, “I don’t care about them right now.” He smiles and says, “Okay, lets get on with it then.”

And to be honest,  I really didnt care about anybody watching.

(But I haven’t always had that freedom, it took some time.=)

As we begin to pray, he looks at me and say’s, “You’re making me shake, why am I shaking?” I looked him square in the eyes and I said, “It isn’t me, its Jesus.”

You see, we don’t have to know what we are going to say or how to say it; we just have to be a willing vessel. God wants to use you the same way, but He needs you to be willing. So I challenge you, the next time you’re out and about, ask God to give you someone to bless, and He happily will do so. The more times you do it, the clearer His voice will become.

You Are Wonderfully Made

You know God never ceases to amaze me. He is constantly stretching me, challenging me and keeping me on my toes. And truth be told, I LOVE IT!! I am so glad that He loves me too much to leave me the way I am. We all can improve, we all can grow. If you have stopped growing, regardless of age, than you should really take the time and seek the Lord. He is always trying to take us to the next level, but many of us get complacent. And friends, complacency is a tar pit! It will keep you bound forever if you let it. So I have chosen to tell the Lord, “Send me, use me, I will go, I will do it, challenge me, change me, and make me more like you.” I know many of you feel the same way and that’s awesome!  I want to encourage you to keep moving forward.

But I know for many of you, your worlds have fallen apart. You are struggling just to keep your heads above water. Whether the economy has struck you with fear, you have lost a loved one or maybe your marriage is falling apart. No matter where you are in your walk. God has not forgotten you. Let me say that again, God has not forgotten you! You have not been rejected by Him, you have not been abandoned by Him, though the world will fail you, He never will. He loves you more than your human mind will ever comprehend.

So whether you have been pushed out, pushed down, or let down, you can cry out to Jesus. He is as close as your heart. Friends, He has counted every prayer and bottled every tear. You are not alone! I know many of you are still waiting on Gods promises, your still clinging to the last bit of hope, friends, keep holding on. Your time will come, remember, when your going through hell, don’t stop and pitch a tent. KEEP MOVING FORWARD!! And keep believing, God is moved by our faith not by our emotions.

God has a plan for you and you are going to make it. Your life is far from over. You are in Christ and He loves you! And though the world has disappointed you, and people have let you down, God can be trusted, He is faithful to make good on His promises. All the promises in the bible are for you. They are not just stories we read about as history. They are alive, they are real, and they are for you. There is nothing good that God will withhold from you, but you have to step out and believe God for your victory. Start believing what God says about you.

What has God revealed about you in his word. “Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old is gone, the new has come. “(2 Cor 5:17)

Truth: I am born of God. You are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus. (Gal 3:26)

Truth: I am not fearful because I have not been given a spirit of fear. (Prov 28:1) the righteous are as bold as a lion.

Truth: We have been made the righteousness of God (Romans 1:17)

Truth: We have been saved by grace no more works. (Ephesians 2:8,9)

Truth: You are the apple of God’s eye (Psalms 17:8)

Truth: Nothing can separate Christ’s love from you, Nothing! (Romans 8:38,39)

So pick your head up, stand up tall, and put your head back, you will overcome and you will be victorious! You are fearfully and wonderfully made. Be blessed and be encouraged.

Your Braver Than You Think You Are

Fear, the word alone is intimidating. It can debilitate us in a matter of seconds. Ever felt it? I don’t know of anyone, who hasn’t at some point in their lives. But sadly, many believers walk in fear. They are afraid of many things. It is the fear of the unknown, the fear of failure, of loss, and even of success.

But we know that fear does not come from God, it comes from the enemy. The word says, “For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power, of love and of self-discipline.” 2Timothy 1:7. The enemy uses fear, but God uses faith. God says he gives all of us a measure of faith. One of the World English Dictionaries definition of faith is; a strong or unshakeable belief in something, especially without proof or evidence. When you have faith, no proof is needed.

I want DANGEROUS Faith……….the kind that does whatever, when ever, however God asks, without question, without fear!! I want the kind of faith that doesn’t just leave a mark on the world after I’m gone, but a huge dent. The quickest way to grow in your walk in the Lord is to be open, and to be willing. To do whatever it is God is requiring of you, even if you don’t understand what it is.

When God says to do something, it’s because He has a plan and something great will come from it. Many people’s lives will be changed because of your obedience, including your own. God doesn’t give us the full picture of our lives, although that would be great and truly appreciated by all, of that I’m most certain.

However, that requires no faith at all. When I was running for city council, I sought the Lord and I asked Him to just give me confirmation that I would win, if He did then I felt I could go on no matter how afraid I was .But you see, God knew that if he had told me, “Gypsy I want you to do this, but you’re not going to win.” I would have been like, “What? Then what’s the point?” You see, He took me out of my box completely. But He already knew I would do it afraid, thing is, I didn’t. So my faith was taken to a new level, out of that one act of obedience.

But what I want to encourage you with is, you are stronger than you think you are. You can do great things, but you have to believe in yourself. And why wouldn’t you? God already does. He would never ask anything of you that He knew you were not capable of accomplishing.

Sometimes, you just need to do it, to prove to yourself that you can. God has great things for all of us, but it requires action on our part. Think about this; “what would you do if you knew you could not and would not fail?” Now, that’s powerful. Friends everything you need to be successful is already in you, God already created it. While you’re waiting on Him, I hear the Lord saying, “I am waiting on you, what will you believe in me for today? Be blessed and encouraged my friends, you are so much stronger than you think you are.

What Makes a Good Elected Official?

WHAT MAKES A GOOD LEADER?~ MY ANSWER;

A good leader speaks with dignity, but listens with care. When speaking, he/she knows that words are forever.

He she carries himself or herself with poise, knowing how they carry themselves reflects those they represent.

A good leader considers his/her decisions, and how it will impact everyone.He/she makes decisions with thought, and gives consideration to all parties.
He or she believes in transparency, and is willing to give reason behind his/her decisions, even knowing they may not be popular.
A good leader is not commanding, but is in command of his/her position and duties.
A good leader does not lead alone, but takes input from those around him… because a good leader surrounds himself with good people.
He/she is willing to say “I was wrong” and admit mistakes or poor decisions. But he/she gives credit to those who helped him when a job is well done.
A good leader hold no favors, and makes no promises, to family, friends, or those who help him get elected through financial support.
He/she is willing to open large-dollar, community-impact projects for bidding even if the rules say it’s not necessary. Because she knows she is not spending her own money, but is protecting it as if it were.
He/she is passionate about his/her position, but not consumed by it.
He she knows that documentation and public support are critical to success, because someday it’ll be someone else’s problem or process.
And finally, he/she cares. And shows it.
