What Makes a Good Elected Official?


WHAT MAKES A GOOD LEADER?~ MY ANSWER;

A good leader speaks with dignity, but listens with care. When speaking, he/she knows that words are forever.

He she carries himself or herself with poise, knowing how they carry themselves reflects those they represent.

A good leader considers his/her decisions, and how it will impact everyone.He/she makes decisions with thought, and gives consideration to all parties.
He or she believes in transparency, and is willing to give reason behind his/her decisions, even knowing they may not be popular.
A good leader is not commanding, but is in command of his/her position and duties.
A good leader does not lead alone, but takes input from those around him… because a good leader surrounds himself with good people.
He/she is willing to say “I was wrong” and admit mistakes or poor decisions. But he/she gives credit to those who helped him when a job is well done.
A good leader hold no favors, and makes no promises, to family, friends, or those who help him get elected through financial support.
He/she is willing to open large-dollar, community-impact projects for bidding even if the rules say it’s not necessary. Because she knows she is not spending her own money, but is protecting it as if it were.
He/she is passionate about his/her position, but not consumed by it.
He she knows that documentation and public support are critical to success, because someday it’ll be someone else’s problem or process.
And finally, he/she cares. And shows it.
